Please study the following important information about research postgraduate students orientation and registration:
 

Orientation

orientation Date: 2 January 2026 (Friday)
Time:

15:00-16:00 (Hong Kong time)

Venue:

via Zoom

(The meeting link will be sent to you via email in due course)

 

The Orientation session will:

  • walk you through the key University regulations;
  • provide you with essential information about your study including study journey, student support, programme requirements, etc.
 
 

Student Card Collection

Date: 5 January 2026 (Monday) to 7 January 2026 (Wednesday) orientation
Time:

09:00-13:00 and 14:00-17:00 (opening hours)

Venue:

Graduate School, AAB904, Level 9, Academic and Administration Building (Map)

You are required to complete the following procedures, where applicable, before collecting your student card.

1.    Academic Qualification(s) Verification

Please make sure you have:

✔  requested that your previous institution(s) or a third party platforms (e.g. Parchment, CHSI) to send your official transcript(s) directly to the HKBU Graduate School (email: hkbu_rpg@hkbu.edu.hk).

✔   submitted by email copies of the following to the Graduate School: Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificates (教育部学历证书电子注册备案表, 中国高等教育学历认证报告 and 中国高等教育学位在线验证报告 ). (Applicable to students who graduated from universities in the Chinese Mainland only

 

2.   Identification Documents Verification (Non-local students only)

Please make sure you have:

✔  uploaded a photocopy of the following documents to the University’s Visa Application System upon your arrival in Hong Kong

 Passport, or Entry Permit, or EEP (往來港澳通行證)

 Landing slip

 Activated student visa/entry permit label

 Relevant exit endorsement (逗留D) (Students from Chinese Mainland ONLY)

  received an email from the Graduate School acknowledging that you have uploaded the documents above. (You will be required to show the acknowledgment email when you collect your student card.)

 

3.   Upload your photo to the University Card Photo Upload System.

Registration will be completed when you receive your student ID card after Orientation, enabling you to access other University services.

 

4.  Submit Commencement Form

Submit a completed “Commencement Form” duly signed by your Principal Supervisor, Department Head and Faculty Dean, to the Graduate School within 10 days from your commencement date. 

 

Activation of Student Single Sign On (SSOId) Account by completing the Induction Pack and download of HKBU Mobile Apps (Between 22-31 December 2025)

  1. Complete Student Single Sign On (SSOid) Account by completing the mandatory Student Safety and Awareness Induction Pack (Link)
  2. Download the HKBU Mobile App (iOS / Android) to access various HKBU platforms and information.
  3. Log in to BUniport  and Student Email with your student SSOid account
    • User ID: your 8-digit student number (e.g. 2548XXXX)
    • Password: same as your email login password 
    • To enhance the security of your SSOid, you are required to complete the Two-factor Authentication (2FA) using the Duo Mobile App (user guide) with a registered mobile device for validation of your identity during the sign-in process.
  4. Activate your student e-card (user guide) via HKBU Mobile App.

Tuition Fee and Studentship

Tuition Fees

There are three arrangements depending on your funding schemes and study modes:

  • Full-time students with studentship: The tuition fee will be automatically deducted from your monthly studentship. You will still receive an electronic tuition fee debit note via BUniPort twice a year (February and August). 
  • Self-funded and part-time students: You will receive electronic tuition fee debit notes via  BUniPort twice a year (February and August). Please settle payment by the stipulated due date (see Payment Instructions); otherwise, a late charge will be applied.
  • Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme awardees: the tuition fee will be waived for four years of study. 

 

Studentship/Fellowship

Studentship/Fellowship recipients* must provide their Hong Kong bank account details and personal particulars in BUniPort (My Profile → Study Record & Personal Particulars, then press “Modify” at the bottom right corner of the page) within 10 days of their study commencement date. 

* Studentship/Fellowship payments are made monthly in arrears by autopay to the recipients' bank accounts in Hong Kong.

 

Opening a bank account in Hong Kong

Banks typically require the following:

  • Proof of your permanent home address in your home country (documents showing your name and address, e.g., driver’s licence or utility bills)
  • The photo page of your identity document (e.g., HKID or passport); provide an English translation if the document is in a language other than English or Chinese
  • Proof of your local residential address (e.g., utility bill, lease, or official document sent to that address bearing your name)

Requirements may vary by bank. Please check with your chosen bank for details.

 


 

Course Registration

Students can register for HKBU courses (see BUniport) and courses offered by other local universities under the Cross-institutional Course Enrolment Scheme (link) after student registration.
