Building Connections and Celebrating Success: HKPFS Awardees Reception 2025

 

“Pursuing a PhD is an extraordinary adventure. It will be filled with both moments of challenge and great reward. But throughout, remember that you are not alone.” Prof Lyu Aiping, Vice President (Research and Development) cum Dean of Graduate School, opened the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) Awardees Reception on 10 Nov 2025, with heartfelt congratulations and a powerful reminder that breakthroughs often emerge from conversations beyond our own fields.

 

 

 

The PhD journey at HKBU is not only about research; it’s about leadership, collaboration, and making an impact. At the reception, we came together to welcome the new HKPFS awardees, connect them with senior awardees and supervisors, and foster interdisciplinary exchange.

Prof Cheung King-ho, Executive Associate Dean of the Graduate School, shared the latest updates on HKPFS and important notes, helping awardees make the most of the opportunities ahead.

 

 

 

Two senior HKPFS awardees—Jennifer Ma from Accounting and Samuel Idris Cabbuag from Sociology—offered thoughtful, practical insights from their own paths: building supportive networks, managing time and priorities, making achievable plans, and embracing collaboration.

The afternoon was filled with lively mingling, setting the tone for a year of connection, shared learning, and community. Warmest thanks to all awardees, supervisors, and speakers for their continuous contributions to our research community.
