Celebrating Research Excellence: The Madam Kwok Chung Bo Fun PhD Student Research Excellence Awards 2025/26

This commitment came to life at the Madam Kwok Chung Bo Fun PhD Student Research Excellence Awards 2025/26, where six outstanding PhD students showcased innovations that advance society. The highlights below show how our community, together with the Fund’s generous support, champions excellence in research and education.
On 16 October 2025, HKBU hosted the Madam Kwok Chung Bo Fun PhD Student Research Excellence Awards 2025/26, welcoming Mr Raymond Kwok, representing the Madam Kwok Chung Bo Fun Charitable Fund (the Fund); Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU; Professor Liu Jiming, Acting Vice-President (Research & Development); and Professor Cheung King-ho, Executive Associate Dean of the Graduate School, alongside distinguished guests, staff, supervisors, and students. The ceremony recognised the outstanding achievements of six exceptional PhD students, who presented their innovative work as finalists for the prestigious Research Excellence Awards.
Professor Alex Wai opened the ceremony with remarks: “Their innovative research attests to the diversity and impact of inquiry at HKBU, addressing global challenges—from advancing sustainable solutions for the planet’s well-being to delivering next-generation digital security and unlocking the benefits of herbal medicine for public health.” He emphasised how students’ research can deliver meaningful benefits to society and the world. He also expressed sincere gratitude to Mr Raymond Kwok, whose generous support made the ceremony possible. Mr Kwok and the Fund’s support not only brought the HKBU research community together to celebrate students’ achievements, but also continues to advance HKBU’s commitment to excellence in higher education and research.
“We believe education is one of the most powerful forces for good—it empowers individuals to think critically, act ethically, and lead with vision and responsibility.” Delivering remarks on behalf of the Fund, Mr Raymond Kwok affirmed HKBU’s unwavering dedication to fostering future leaders. "This ceremony is far more than a celebration of academic achievement; it is a testament to perseverance, curiosity, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge in shaping a better world." Mr Kwok expressed heartfelt congratulations to the six outstanding nominees recognised today for their exceptional researches. He also thanked faculty members, supervisors, and staff for making the ceremony a successful and meaningful occasion.
Beyond honouring these talented researchers, the event catalysed new connections and ideas across the HKBU community. A poster exhibition and networking session complemented the award presentations and gave participants the opportunity to explore the awardees’ projects in depth. The lively exchange of insights and perspectives showcased HKBU’s vibrant research culture and underscored its dedication to nurturing the next generation of innovators and thought leaders.
