ITS Transdisciplinary PhD Programme Orientation 2025: Transdisciplinary Research Journey Begins

On 3 September 2025, we were delighted to hold the orientation for the ITS Transdisciplinary PhD Programme, a pioneering project‑based doctoral training pathway. This year’s intake comprises 10 outstanding students, selected for their capacity to thrive in transdisciplinary research. The session featured principal supervisors and distinguished speakers, whose guidance will accompany our students throughout their journey.

Proceedings opened with an inspiring address from Prof. Cheung King-ho, Executive Associate Dean of the Graduate School and ITS Transdisciplinary PhD Programme Director, who presented a comprehensive overview of the programme, highlighting its distinctive elements and robust training components designed to empower our PhD students.

A standout moment was the reflection shared by Mr. Chang Jiawen, a Year 4 student in the Department of Physics. He explained that the ITS Transdisciplinary PhD Programme and practical doctoral training in his first year have strengthened his time management, helped him shift his mindset from student to researcher, and offered insights into overcoming disciplinary boundaries through a transdisciplinary perspective. His story demonstrates the transformative experience fostered by the ITS Transdisciplinary PhD Programme.
This orientation signalled the start of a new academic year and reaffirmed our commitment to cultivating innovation and excellence in research postgraduate development. We look forward to supporting our students as they embark on this remarkable journey!
