Selection Process
  1. Applicants may be interviewed to determine their suitability for studying the programme.
  2. Application result will be reflected in the application status in the online application system.
Aims

The programme focuses on the concepts and practices of information systems and covers three themes for advanced information systems (namely, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Information Systems). Students learn solid concepts and gain hands-on skills in these themes, so that they could apply these concepts and skills to solve real-world information system problems.  On completion of this programme, students should be able to achieve the following programme intended learning outcomes (PILOs):

PILO 1: Explain the core concepts and methodologies of data analytics, artificial intelligence and intelligent information systems.

PILO 2: Apply data analytics, artificial intelligence, intelligent information systems and the related technologies for problem solving and applications.

PILO 3: Identify business needs and explain how to apply data analytics, artificial intelligence and the related technologies to transform the business needs into information systems.

Study Curriculum The study curriculum may change from time to time. Applicants may make reference to the programme website or the University Student Handbook for details of the list of courses.

Academic Qualification

  1. A bachelor's degree in science, engineering, IT or relevant fields from a recognised university; or
  2. Equivalent qualifications.


Language Proficiency Requirement

If applicants did not use English as the medium of learning in their bachelor’s degree programmes, they should satisfy any one of the following English proficiency requirements:

  1. IELTS overall band score of at least 6.0; or
  2. TOEFL score of at least 74 (Internet-based); or
  3. Other equivalent qualifications.

 

Others

For exceptional cases in which applicants have other qualifications but substantial experience in IT, applicants' suitability will be determined with reference to individual merits and interviews.

To attract outstanding applicants, we provide Entrance Scholarships to the freshmen with excellent academic records in their undergraduate studies. Each awardee will receive up to HK$50,000.

To encourage students to achieve excellence in their studies, we provide the following scholarships:

  1. High Distinction Scholarship (HK$12,000/semester for full-time study mode or HK$12,000/year for part-time study mode) with the following conditions:
    1. the semester GPA is 3.90 ‒ 4.00 for full-time students or the year GPA is 3.90 ‒ 4.00 for part-time students;
    2. no grade is lower than B-; and
    3. it is within the normal study schedule; and
    4. full-time students must take at least 13 units in the semester or part-time students must take at least 13 units in the academic year.
  2. Distinction Scholarship (HK$8,000/semester for full-time study mode or HK$8,000/year for part-time study mode) with the following conditions:
    1. the semester GPA is 3.70 ‒ 3.89 for full-time students or the year GPA is 3.70 ‒ 3.89 for part-time students;
    2. no grade is lower than B-; and
    3. it is within the normal study schedule and the number of units taken is not less than that in the normal study schedule; and
    4. full-time students must take at least 13 units in the semester or part-time students must take at least 13 units in the academic year.
  3. Merit Scholarship (HK$4,000/semester for full-time study mode or HK$4,000/year for part-time study mode) with the following conditions:
    1. the semester GPA is 3.40 ‒ 3.69 for full-time students or the year GPA is 3.40 ‒ 3.69 for part-time students; and
    2. it is within the normal study schedule and the number of units taken is not less than that in the normal study schedule; and
    3. full-time students must take at least 13 units in the semester or part-time students must take at least 13 units in the academic year.
  4. Global Experience Scholarships are awarded to support students to participate in the designated global outreach programme(s) organized by the Department. Students are selected for this scholarship based on two criteria: (i) academic records and (ii) suitability for the designated outreach programme (e.g., learning motivation and communication skills). Each awardee will receive a certificate and financial support to cover the expenses for the major transportation and accommodation (such as airline ticket and hotel) for the outreach programme.

Continuing Education Fund
If a student is a Hong Kong resident, he/she may be eligible for financial support from the Continuing Education Fund (CEF) provided by the Hong Kong SAR Government to partly cover the tuition fee.
