Aims

The programme, jointly offered by the School of Communication and the School of Business, aims to nurture confident and competent professionals in media management. Taking advantage of the expertise of the faculty of both Schools, the programme integrates state-of-art knowledge about media and management in its programme design for the education of media professionals for leadership in media industry. Graduates of the programme will be equipped with an integrated knowledge of the mass communication process and various aspects of its management and business administration in the Greater China region and beyond. They are expected to be able to work in key management posts in the media industry and be well prepared for career advancement to leading positions in the media sector in the global information age. Those interested in further pursuit of either media studies or management will find the degree a solid foundation for further development. 

The design of the programme curriculum illustrates how theory and research can be applied to real world media and management issues and problems. The programme is to achieve the following aims: 

  1. Develop professionals’ conceptual and analytical skills in applying state-of-the-art media and management research knowledge;
  2. Discipline media professionals with leadership and management acumen;
  3. Cultivate media professionals to become executive leaders in the media industry; and
  4. Lay a foundation for those interested in further advanced studies in media or management.

Academic Qualification

Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree with honours from a recognised university or comparable institution.


Language Proficiency Requirement

Applicants whose first degree is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English should possess a minimum TOEFL score of 79 (internet-based test); or an overall IELTS band score of 6.5.

 

Others

  1. Professional experience would be preferred.
  2. Applicants should submit a 500-word essay in English outlining their academic interests and objectives, and
  3. A sample of publication or research paper written by the applicant, if any.

Merit-based scholarships will be awarded in the second semester to students with outstanding academic performance in the first semester of the study. Awarded students receive between HK$10,000 and HK$20,000.

A postgraduate diploma may be awarded only to those who have chosen but cannot complete the Application Project, while the coursework is fulfilled with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above and all courses scoring grade C- or above. Reasons for failing to complete the Application Project must be deemed acceptable by the Programme Management Committee.
