  • Introduction

The Graduate School has worked together with the Library on the implementation of electronic submission of theses and submission of the PhD theses (English only) to ProQuest Information and Learning (PQIL) for publication. Electronic submission of theses would allow broader exposure of research and a free, remote access to the full text and abstract of our theses. Submission of our PhD theses to ProQuest Information and Learning (PQIL) means that a search of the Dissertation Abstracts International (print version) or ProQuest Digital Dissertations (electronic version) would retrieve a citation for the thesis, and the item can be ordered through ProQuest Information and Learning (PQIL) by 3 different formats, namely, paper, microfilm/microfiche, or web version. This could help the promotion of our research programs and research work.

    Procedures on Submission of Theses

Students are required to submit an unbound hard copy of the thesis to the Office of Graduate School for checking of format after it has been accepted by the Examination Board. If the theses submitted are not in the prescribed format, students are required to revise the theses accordingly.

After the format checking, students are required to submit the following to the Office of Graduate School:
    i) three bound copies and an electronic copy (PDF format in one single file stored in a CD-ROM) of the thesis in fulfillment of their degree requirement.
ii) one unbound copy of the thesis for the Library serving as the backup of the electronic copy.
iii) a Declaration Form (in Microsoft Word format) to declare that the content of the electronic copy is identical to that of the bound copy of thesis submitted.
iv) a Thesis Release Form (in Microsoft Word format) to delegate authority to the University to circulate their theses.
    v) a Doctoral Dissertation Agreement Form (in Adobe PDF format) if they agree to submit their theses to the ProQuest Information and Learning (PQIL) for publication. The Library would make arrangement to submit the PhD theses to PQIL accordingly. (For PhD students with their theses written in English only.)

Please also refer to the flow chart (in Microsoft Word format) showing the operational procedures for the submission of final bound thesis for graduation.

    Access to Electronic Theses

HKBU community users may access to the full text of theses online through a secure network or Internet connection. The printed version is available in the University Library according to the circulation regulations currently in force. Additionally, the table of contents and abstract may be accessed online by non-HKBU community users and the full text as well if consulted on-site. Moreover, authorization is given to the University for reproduction and distribution of theses, wholly or partially, in any format or by any means, for purposes of private study, educational use, scholarship or research, except for reproduction by individual users which will be governed by the existing Hong Kong Copyright Ordinance.

You may access the electronic theses through the website of the HKBU Library.
