About Graduate School
The University emphasizes the equal importance of teaching and research excellence and high quality scholarship in its academic programmes. With improved funding from the Government, HKBU moved at a deliberate pace to launch the taught postgraduate and research postgraduate programmes in the 1980's.
To further promote postgraduate programmes and to upgrade the administrative support for postgraduate studies, the University established the Graduate School in April 2002, with administrative support provided by the Academic Registry. In April 2011, the Research and Postgraduate Studies Section hived off from the Academic Registry to form the independent administration of the Graduate School to further advance its various endeavours.
The remit of the Graduate School is two-fold: to help the University build a postgraduate study culture by providing a supportive and congenial environment for postgraduate studies; and to facilitate the enhancement of research performance of the University.
The School keeps abreast of international best practice in graduate education and research projects administration, and ensures smooth and effective implementation of policies pertaining to these two areas. Ever since its establishment, the Graduate School has grown rapidly in terms of the spectrum of programmes offered and the number of students enrolled. Currently, the number of postgraduate students in the Graduate School accounts for approximately 40% of the University's total enrolment. The School has also launched various schemes and services to help facilitate the enhancement of research performance of our academic staff.
